The Women’s Centre, partnered with Parkdale United Church, Women Together Ending Poverty, YWCA, Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association, Learning Renewal, Child Well-being Initiative, UCW and other friends of justice have come together to bring you “Women Rising Up”, a two day conference to talk about eliminating poverty for women in Alberta.

The conference, beginning on Friday, April 20th at 5:00pm will feature a diversity of female speakers and entertainers including strategist Lorna Crowshoe, elder Audrey Weasel Traveller and jazz musician Barb Myers. Additionally, among stories, drama, food and fun, participants will engage in a poverty simulation exercise and open space conversations. These conversations will draw upon participant’s strengths, ideas and creativity to formulate next steps to addressing poverty in Alberta.

The conference will take place at the Parkdale United Church (2919 8th Avenue NW). Dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday are included and provided by the McClure United Church Women. The conference is a women’s only event, the building is wheelchair accessible and bus tickets are available.
