Over 400 people came out to celebrate our Stampede Lunch earlier this week. This year was extra special for us because we were able to host the party in our new air-conditioned space (yes, the Women’s Centre now has A/C!). To beat the heat in previous years, we graciously misted our guests with spray bottles as they waited in line for food in the parking lot of our old space. This year, no misting took place. And to be honest, a few of us may have missed it (just a little)!

Joining us for the day were many new faces, and lots of familiar ones too. Our friends from Encana generously sponsored the event, and helped out by bringing a team of volunteers to host and serve food, and by preparing some dessert trays for our guests to enjoy. Our new neighbour, Rocky’s Sausage Haus, was so kind to donate 400 delicious sausages for the event. COBS Bread, another dedicated supporter of the Women’s Centre’s food program, provided 300 buns. Co-Op gave us a $50 gift card for event supplies.

A special thank-you goes out to a very talented local musician, Carla Olive, who sang and played guitar to a lovely array of tunes while guests mingled and had lunch.

And of course, the day wouldn’t have been such a success without all of the people who came out and celebrated with us. Misting, or no misting, it was still a great day. Thanks to everyone who made it out!
