“I learned that I am strong.”

These are the words of one Girl Force participant in her evaluation following a week of summer camp. In 2018, the program for girls in grades 7-9, brought together 12 girls to explore issues they told us they wanted to learn about, including gender, body image, relationships and mental health. They also got to try Capoiera, yoga, made a zine about relationships, hung out at the park, and ate lunch at Boogies Burgers. The participants built strong connections with each other during the week, and many vowed to attend the new Girl Force school year program, which launched September 2017.

In addition to the new Girl Force Camp, we also ran two Girl Power Camps for girls in grades 5 and 6 who had never visited the Women’s Centre before, one camp for girls from our Girl Power After School program, and a weekly evening summer program for girls in grades 10-12. During that busy summer, girls had fun while participating in scavenger hunts, Indigenous drumming sessions, art projects, self defense workshops, eating ice cream, and visiting local restaurants such as Sushi Bar Zipang and Spicy Hut.

Did you miss these summer programs last year? Don’t worry, the fun is back! Our summer camp programs for girls in grades 5-12 are starting up again this July and we are still looking for participants. Here is the information:
