At the Women’s Centre, we are excited to be a part of another year of safe and inclusive Stampede fun. We’ll be marking the occasion in a few different ways, most importantly with our annual Stampede Lunch! On Wednesday July 12 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, we’ll be hosting an afternoon of Stampede fun for everyone, and we hope you can join us. (A note that all regular Women’s Centre services will be closed for the day).
Our summer Artist in Residence, Chantal Changnon will be opening the event with singing, drumming, and storytelling. We’ll also hear from our MLA, Dr. David Swann, who will give a few remarks and officially kick off our lunch.
It wouldn’t be a Women’s Centre Stampede Lunch without sausages from Rocky’s Sausage Haus! Our friends and neighbours at Rocky’s have been providing delicious, hand-made sausages to make this lunch possible for as long as we can remember, and we look forward to the treat every year. We’ll also have vegetarian sausages, our famous Women’s Centre bean salad, some sweet treats to share, door prizes generously donated by Blush Lane, Cobbs Bakery, Co-op, Costco, Matrix Logistics, Maxxam Analytics, Journey Yoga, and Councillor Ward Sutherland’s office.
There will be music throughout and everyone can take a minute to check out our new mural, painted by Christina Helf as part of the Buds of Buds Painted Windows Competition. Most importantly, you’ll have an opportunity to share a meal and celebrate community together.
If you can’t make it to our lunch, don’t worry! There are a few other ways to join the Women’s Centre for Stampede fun. Our community ambassador volunteers will be out and about in the community for stampede season. Come stop by and check out our Women’s Centre booth at the Renfrew Community Association Stampede Breakfast on July 8, the Calgary Mountain View Stampede Breakfast on July 8, or the Crescent Heights Community Association Stampede Breakfast on July 16.
Happy Stampeding everyone!
