Providing women with choices is an important part of how we work at the Women’s Centre. And not having access to resources, especially during the holiday season, severely limits the options and quality of life that each of us deserves.
In December women are able to come to the Centre and choose gifts for their children. In a mock toy store layout, women can browse shelves stocked by holiday elves (aka volunteers!) and pick out gifts for their kids. And when resources are available, women may choose a gift for themselves. They also have the option of having their gift(s) wrapped.
During last year’s toy room, we served more than 2,500 women and children. In order for us to make toy room possible this year, we desperately need your help!
Areas of need:
- New, unwrapped gifts for children; priority need – 8-12 year olds
- Gift cards for teens
- Grocery store gift cards and gift baskets with personal care items such as shampoo, body wash, and lotion and for women
Our toy room is intended to support families that are not able to access other holiday programs (e.g. adopt-a-family, holiday parties, gift hampers, etc). Our goal is to provide an accessible, last-minute resource so that no families fall between the cracks during the holiday season.
Donations of gifts can be dropped off now until December 23 at noon at 646-First Ave NE (click here to see a map and list of our hours).
Our hope is that we don’t have to turn away any families this Christmas. With your help, we won’t have to. Please feel free to share our poster with your contacts (click image below to enlarge).
Thank you for your support!
