On Sunday, May 26, a few of us from the Women’s Centre will be at the Next Up National Gathering on Cortes Island in British Columbia. On that same day, as some of you may know, Team Women’s Centre will also be participating in the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon Charity Challenge.
Sarah Winstanley, Katie Rasmussen and I were all very sad (well maybe not that sad…) when we found out that we won’t be able to join in on the annual race day festivities that we are usually a part of. So, in true Women’s Centre fashion, we put our heads together and came up with a creative alternative. We will be asking other Next Uppers at the gathering to join us on race day for a 10km run on the island.
Although we cannot be in Calgary or solicit donations for our participation with personalized pages, we are asking that folks donate to Team Women’s Centre on our behalf. For anyone who will be in Calgary on May 26, there is also still time to sign-up and join Team Women’s Centre in running or walking!
While we won’t be running beside you, we will be running with you. And we’re really excited to build connections with some of the other Next Uppers and chat about social and environmental justice issues as we run for the Women’s Centre!
Next Up is a leadership program aimed at increasing the skills and knowledge of youth involved in social and environmental justice. The Next Up program is finishing its third year in Calgary.
