Our Drop-In Hours are Changing

Our Drop-In Hours are Changing at the Women's Centre

Starting February 1, 2024

the Women’s Centre of Calgary will be adjusting its drop-in program hours to serve our community better.

NEW Drop-In Schedule: Monday to Thursday: 11 A.M. – 4 P.M.; Friday: 9:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.

This adjustment is in response to the growing demand for our drop-in program, placing strain on our staff and volunteers. We believe this change will help us better meet your needs while fostering a stronger sense of community.

What are the Women’s Centre drop-in programs?

  • Basic needs support like monthly hygiene items, food bank referrals
  • One-to-one peer support and referrals
  • Access to computer, printer, fax, and telephone services
  • Community food (snacks, meals, coffee, and tea)
  • Drop-in lounge and seating area
  • The Sharing Shelf

The Women’s Centre will continue to offer various registered programs and workshops outside of these times but will only be open to community drop-ins during the drop-in schedule.

Why the Change?

The decision was made after engaging with our community, analyzing service-usage data, and consulting with staff and volunteers. The new schedule aligns closely with our community members’ reported most convenient times.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why are you making these changes?

The Women’s Centre is focused on community building as our core mission. We are bringing our drop-in hours in alignment with other community organizations so that we can direct more staff and volunteer resources to programs, workshops and events.

These times aren’t convenient for me; can you make an exception?

Additional drop-in opportunities by registration may be offered outside of the drop-in schedule. Let’s look to see if we can find something together. If we can’t find anything, we can call 211 with you to see what other resources are available in the city.

How did you make these decisions?

Throughout November, we surveyed community members who were visiting our space. These hours closely align with what our community members told us were the most convenient times that they came to the Women’s Centre. We also analyzed our Centre-usage data and engaged with our staff members and volunteers.

Why aren’t you running your programs?

Registered programs and workshops are still running at their usual times. If you visit us for an evening program, you can expect that there will only be program participants in the Centre, and there will not be peer support or other drop-in programs available.

Why are you making these changes in the cold weather?

There are many drop-in warming spaces throughout our city; the Women’s Centre will support transportation to those spaces and will allow women to warm up in our lounge during extremely cold weather on an as-needed basis.

When can I pick up my food bank hamper?

You can pick up your food bank hamper during the regular drop-in hours of 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
