We are excited to announce that, after much anticipation, we will officially close the doors of our old space at 646-1st Avenue NE at 3:00pm on March 27. Our move will take place on March 28, and we will open in our new space in mid-April. For a list of resources where women can find support while we are closed, please click here.
Work crews are still busy putting the final touches on the new Women’s Centre at 39-4th Street NE. Retrofits completed so far include installation of plumbing, electrical, and heating and ventilation. Drywalling, painting, and installation of hardware such as cabinets, toilets, sinks, faucets, and other fixtures is underway.
Renovations at our new centre have been delayed for various reasons including post-flood trade shortages. But after months of patiently waiting, we remain cautiously optimistic that, in just a few weeks, we will finally be able to call the new space our home.
Although our plans didn’t materialize as quickly as we had hoped, businesses and supporters have generously responded to our calls for help and donations. Toilets, sinks, and faucets donated by Bartle and Gibson and Allan Forrest Sales; kitchen and bathroom cabinets from Cabinet Solutions; and bathroom fixtures from the Lighting Centre are all on-site and waiting to be installed. Other donated materials will be delivered as renovations progress.
Adjusting our plans regularly over the last nine months has truly tested our patience and adaptability. Thankfully, as many of you are aware, we have been able to stay open in our current location and continue providing services to women in our city.
As our move date is becoming a reality, we ask for your help. If you are interested in volunteering to help us move into our new home at the end of March, please contact Filsan at filsan@womenscentrecalgary.org or 403-264-1155.
Thank you so much for your patience and support with our changing move plans over the past year. We are truly excited to make this dream a reality and finally open the doors of our new space!
