Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Esther, and I am excited to begin my role as a Communications Coordinator at the Women’s Centre. When I’m not working, I enjoy painting, baking, reading, playing video games, and engaging in stimulating conversations.
What brought you to the Women’s Centre of Calgary?
Having attained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Calgary and completed my internship at another non-profit organization, I was eager to go on to another life stage where I would get to know myself more as a person and a professional. The Women’s Centre presented a unique opportunity where I could be a valued member of a community and continue to grow as a person.
What is your personal definition of feminism?
Feminism, for me, is defined by equity. Equity between men and women, then women’s equity amongst other women. Feminism is not truly actualized until the disadvantages that marginalized women face are acknowledged and addressed.
What’s one thing you hope to learn at the Women’s Centre?
I’m a very open-minded person, so I don’t have anything I hope to learn in particular. I really want to absorb as much information as possible because I’m inquisitive. Nonetheless, I’m eager to see what I can apply in my role from my minor in Sociology.
