Love to read?
How about joining a group of women at the Women’s Centre on the last Monday of every month for a book club?
Coffee and snacks will be provided – all you need to bring is your interest in women’s issues and literature! Our first book, to be discussed at our first meeting, will be A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews.
Here’s a little summary…
“Nomi Nickel is the narrator of Miriam Toews’ novel A Complicated Kindness. Her mother and her sister have both left the family, separately and without warning at the start of Toews’ account of the life of an angst-ridden 16 year old girl growing up in a Mennonite community. Why her mother and her sister have left is revealed as the novel goes on, and the lifestyle of the Mennonite community is described and decried in a way that only a rebellious teenager could.”
The book can be found at the Calgary Public Library. Call them at 403-260-2600 to find a copy.
The first meeting will be on Monday, January 30 from 6-7:30pm at the Women’s Centre of Calgary – 646 1st Ave NE.
Please call the centre at 403-264-1155 for more information or to register, or email Sarah at sarah@womenscentrecalgary.org.
Hope to see you there!
