March 8 marks the occasion to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). Communities across the globe, including ours, will unite in celebration of women in honour of this day.
For more than 100 years, IWD has helped to increase awareness for women’s rights and advancements around the world. This year’s official theme, Inspiring Change, speaks to the need to continue advocating for further positive gains in equality for women, everywhere and in every way.
Join us in celebrating strong women and sharing inspiration for change here in our city at one of these local IWD festivities:
- Calgary International Women’s Day | Mar 6 (10am-3pm): Visit the IWD community fair and take part in a noon hour rally at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in the EPCOR Centre. Everyone is welcome. Click here for more information.
- International Women’s Day Potluck Celebration | Mar 6 (5:30-8pm): Come enjoy a free community potluck dinner at the Kerby Centre. Everyone is welcome, and guests are invited to bring a dish if they are able. There will also be music, activities and a short program featuring guest speaker, Autumn Eaglespeaker with Idle No More.
The Women’s Centre will be attending and helping coordinate both of these events, and we’d love to have you join us.
