The Women’s Centre is gearing up for another summer session of Girl Power Camps! The Women’s Centre offers Girl Power Camps in the spring and summer to mentor girls (ages 10-12) and promote basic values of equality, self-determination and empowerment. Our hope is that girls will come away from the camp with a greater understanding of the strengths of being a girl, an appreciation of their own value and capabilities, and knowledge about how they can work to make change for girls.
Camps will provide girls with opportunities to learn dance, art, self-defense, and theatre. Camps provide opportunities for girls to share their stories, and talents, as well as make connections and build community with other girls!
The camps are free of charge and expenses such as transportation, meals, and supplies are also covered. Registration is now open for 3 weeks of camps from July 13-17, July 20-24, and August 10-14. Girls are able to register for one of the camp sessions, and priority is given to those who have not attended a camp before. Girls who have previously attended Girl Power camps will be added to a wait list.
Girls and their guardians are asked to visit the Centre in person to confirm attendance and fill out waivers. We ask that all confirmations be completed prior to July 10, 2015. Bus tickets are provided for attendance purposes. As a reminder to parents, camps run from 9:00am-4:00pm Monday-Thursday, and 9:00am-12:30pm on Fridays. The camps are held at The Women’s Centre, 39 – 4 Street NE.
