Back for a second round, our annual Girl Connect Conference is coming up on Saturday, October 12th from 10am to 4pm at the Women’s Centre Calgary. Coinciding with #InternationalDayOfTheGirl this is an event organized and run by girls for girls. All girls in grades 5 to 12 are welcome to attend for free! Girls will be meeting and connecting with other girls, while participating in discussions and activities about topics that are important to them. There will be a pizza lunch included and lots of muffins and cookies baked by our Girls Programs the day before. We also have bus tickets available for those that need one for a ride home.
The conference last year was an exciting time for those that attended, as they learned about a variety of topics such as; confidence, self-care, and conflict. There were about 45 girls in attendance last year along with those who hosted. When commenting on their experiences at the conference, one girl said, “I learned that lots of girls have things in common with me,” and another participant said, “I liked meeting new people and talking about issues we face.”
This year the organizing committee chose to focus on leadership and will give three workshops: leadership & self, leadership & community, and leadership & initiative. This is an exciting time for girls to share their knowledge and practice their leadership skills, but it’s also a time to bring girls in grades 5-12 together to support each other, have fun and feel empowered to create positive change. Participants will leave the day with new connections and inspiration to make the world a better place.
