Gift-giving is a tradition celebrated by many cultures and in many different ways. There are many reasons why people give gifts: as a token of respect, a sign of gratitude, a gesture of kindness, or perhaps, as a simple way to say: “I was thinking about you”. And as many of us know, the act of gift-giving is a gift in itself – it feels good to give.
Around this time each year, we begin receiving a flurry of inquiries from women seeking holiday resources for their families. And about six weeks from now, as is the case almost every year, demand for our holiday program will inevitably exceed available resources.
By making a donation, you can help us share the tradition of giving with a family in need this Christmas. Providing a woman with a gift for her child means much more than the gift itself — it is about providing an opportunity for someone else to feel good about giving, too.
At the Women’s Centre, our programs and services are driven by the needs of the women in the community. We work hard to ensure that women who come to the Centre are provided with choices and opportunities to maintain dignity – but we can’t do it alone. With your help, women who access the Toy Room this year will be provided with an opportunity to choose a gift for their child, and possibly also for themselves.
Areas of Need:
- Gifts* for children of all ages (both boys and girls)
- Gift cards (popular with teens)
- Gifts* for women
*new, unwrapped gifts only
The Women’s Centre’s Toy Room is intended for women who will not be receiving assistance through other holiday programs. It runs from December 10 – 20, 2012. We request that gifts are dropped off at the Women’s Centre beforehand. Click here for our hours and location.
If you are able to organize a toy drive (e.g. with the support of friends, family, or colleagues) please contact Tiffany at 403-264-1155 or tiffany@womenscentrecalgary.org.
