September 29 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Hosted by: Lorelei Higgins and Marilyn North-Peigan.
In the spirit of Reconciliation, this event will be a circle conversation with women about strength and resilience, grounded in the lived experiences of our hosts and those present.
This will be an opportunity for learning, relationship building, and one active step towards Reconciliation for those attending.
We are very excited to have two incredible women and community builders, Lorelei Higgins and Marilyn North Peigan, to host this conversation.
Lorelei and Marilyn are both respected community builders.
Lorelei Higgins is a Cultural Mediator, A Rotary Peace Fellow and Positive Peace Activator, and a Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Program alumna. She works on community-based projects locally and internationally around peace and conflict transformation, Indigenous matters, and the elevation of female voices in leadership. In her day job, Lorelei works as the Community Lead for the City of Calgary’s Anti-Racism Program. She has also been named Mrs. Canada Globe this year.
Marilyn North Peigan is a community leader and a member of the Piikani First Nations. She has been active serving on the Calgary Police Commission as Vice-chair and is also a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. In her day job, Marilyn works providing outreach, community advocacy and education with the Native Counseling Services of Alberta, working to support residential school survivors and their families. Her contributions to the community include having served as Vice-chair of the Calgary Aboriginal Urban Affairs Committee, which strived to improve the opportunities and quality of life for Aboriginal people living in Calgary.
