For over ten years, the Women’s Centre has been hosting the Community Kitchen program for women with developmental disabilities. From finding recipes and cooking group meals to making crafts and planning activities together, the program offers participants opportunities to learn new skills, build relationships and get involved with the community.

The women recently decided they would like to start finding more ways to help others. A community involvement initiative they are planning to embark on first is packaging basic needs items donated to the Women’s Centre, such as shampoo and soap, for women in need. In addition any food that is leftover from the group’s cooking activities is donated back to the Centre.

Over the years the program has attracted a diverse and loyal group of women who meet three Fridays every month. Many participants and accompanying workers have done more than experiment with new recipes and plan activities; they have made long-lasting friendships through the program.

The Community Kitchen program needs at least three volunteers to assist each week. We are currently recruiting two more volunteers. The program runs from September to June with a break for the month of December. If you are interested, please call Caterina or Sarah at (403) 264-1155 for more details.
