International Women’s Day was celebrated with delicious food, great music, and some truly inspirational women this year.
People filled the Kerby Centre last Thursday to recognize women in our community and around the world who have made a difference.
After a great performance from Carla Olive, we were treated to two songs from the Raging Grannies on secondary suites and progressive tax reform.
Our very own practicum student Yohana Berhane made a speech about the theme of International Women’s Day 2015: Make It Happen!
Brenda Crompton, courage speaker from the Brenda Strafford Family Violence Prevention Society, shared her story of overcoming personal struggles to reach her dreams.
And last but not least, we had a rousing rendition of Bread and Roses.
We would like to thank all of the diverse people who volunteered their time and their kitchens to make our potluck a success.
We would also like to recognize all the sponsors who helped make this day possible:
- Alberta Network of Immigrant Women
- United Nurses of Alberta
- Calgary and District Labour Council
- Canadian Union of Public Employees
- Public Service Alliance of Canada
- United Food and Commercial Workers
- Red Rose Florist
- COBS Bread (Country Hills)
