The Centre first opened in the early 1970s as a program at the YWCA.

It became an independent organization in October 1997, under the umbrella of Oxfam-Canada, and in July 2000 received its own charitable status from Revenue Canada.

Today, the Women’s Centre has over 400 active volunteers who provide thousands of women in our community with free access to basic needs support, services, lifelong learning programs and community building opportunities.

The Women’s Centre is active in education and analysis of public policy, and building a community of women engaged in women’s and diversity issue
